Sekian. Terima kasih.

KUCHING: In the interest of the Barisan Nasional (BN), all components that are facing internal crisis should start patching up now or it will be too late.

Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos said ailing BN partners namely Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) had no choice but to resolve their internal squabbles as soon as possible.

He said that happy compromises would come about if their leaders and members truly value and love their parties like what had been happening in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).

“If members in SUPP and SPDP appreciate the fine political values in PBB and put their love for their parties to reality, things will be sorted out nicely and amicably but if not woes will be coming along the way and this is something that I believe most people really loathe to happen,” he observed.

He said what both parties could learn from PBB was how the party under the leadership of Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had put party solidarity in real action and not just paid lip service.

“I think this is something the people in SPDP and SUPP must see and study and if possible emulate,” said Minos.

He said that PBB, as the backbone of the state BN has to show its BN partners how vital it was to really value and respect party unity.

He said this was y vital because the general election was going to be soon probably in March or April next year and everyone in BN must unite and rally behind the top leaders.

“If possible, treat internal problems as taboo and to be avoided. The sickness from within is worse than the open onslaught of the opposition,” he said.

He pointed out the squabbling in Gerakan which wiped the party out in 2008, losing all the gains of many years in just a matter of days. MIC almost suffered a similar fate.

“We have to realise that voters and public at large will turn away from any political party riddled with internal squabbles including leadership tussles. Therefore it is the hope of PBB that SUPP and SPDP members strive for party unity and solidarity, and steer away from acts of division and dissension,” he added.

He said with the current internal problems in SUPP and SPDP and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) being still ‘young and small’ it could not be denied that BN Sarawak relied heavily on PBB to hold the fort in state politics.

“We should be grateful to the political culture of true discipline and loyalty to top leaders in PBB especially the president and because of that I can safely say that PBB members are the real backbone of Sarawak BN,” he concluded.
