Pemuda PBB Padungan mahu Ho Leng buktikan kebenaran keceluparannya

Sekian. Terimakasih.

KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) state chairman Wong Ho Leng said the party has no qualms about contesting in Malay areas.

“As a matter of fact, DAP contested in Malay areas before and Ahmad Noor was successful. In many elections including in Sarawak, DAP had contested in Malay areas in the 1980s and 1990s.

“We did not perform well but that was then, when we also did not perform well in Chinese areas,” he highlighted when was asked to comment on a statement by Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek that DAP should contest in Malay areas to prove it is accepted by all communities.

Wong, who is also the state assemblyman for Bukit Asek, said DAP is more multi-racial than MCA – having Malays, Chinese, Ibans and Indians as its members.

On Dr Chua’s statement that DAP was indirectly creating a political system where the Chinese occupy only opposition roles, Wong said: “MCA president is a ‘sour’ baby. He is looking to an opposition party to punch but his ego does not permit him to punch a party that is small so he looked at DAP.”

Dr Chua was quoted by an online news portal as saying that the opposition party’s habit of pitting Chinese candidates against those from Gerakan or MCA would only dilute Chinese representation in the government.

“By pitting Chinese against Chinese, DAP has merely created a political system where non-Chinese form government and the Chinese end up as the opposition,” said Dr Chua.

“This will ultimately lead to a two-race system, not a two-party system,” he told delegates at the 58th MCA general meeting.

To this, Wong pointed out that Dr Chua knew MCA was walking on a tight rope as the party might be wiped out in the coming election.

“Hence he advocated that if MCA performs worse off than last general election then they won’t take government posts,” he added.

Wong said Dr Chua himself faced competition from within his own party and even his own party leaders claimed that he would be an unwinnable MCA candidate because of his moral problem.

“MCA does not perform and he knows it. But he should not be worried for too long about Chinese being in opposition. It looks like the political climate is ripe for not only the Chinese but all races in Malaysia to unite to ensure a new occupant in Putrajaya,” he concluded.
