Pemuda PBB Padungan kecam kenyataan biadap Sabu

Sekian. Terima kasih.

KUCHING: Recipients of Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa (SP) and Pingat Panglima Gagah Berani (PGB) were obviously the most frustrated and offended lot over the recent statement by PAS deputy president Mohamed Sabu.

Speaking to the media at a press conference here yesterday, a spokesperson for the group of SP and PGB holders in the state Capt (Rtd) Mohd Johari Ibrahim, 70, said the statement was not only uncalled for but was also very unfair to those who had fought for the sovereignty of the country.

“It is not that we want to boast and tell the whole world about our sacrifices and hardships we encountered in defending the country from internal and external threats in the 60s and 70s but what Mat (Mohamed) Sabu uttered really made us feel hurt.

“The question is where was Mat Sabu at that time. I doubt very much whether he was around at that time or not. Even if he were around probably he would still be playing naked with a rubber ball in the paddy field and therefore he doesn’t know how difficult it was for people like us to safeguard the sovereignty of the country,” Johari commented.

He said it was very misleading for Mat Sabu to declare that the communists who attacked and killed the policemen in Bukit Kepong in the 50’s as the real heroes when they actually wanted to ruin the whole country and its people.

Therefore, he said, they felt duty bound to tell everyone in the country that it was the remarkable contributions of the soldiers, among others, that had helped the nation achieve its present status and not the communists as claimed by the PAS leader.

“If he still thinks that the communist terrorists were the real heroes and not the Malaysian army then I challenge him to a public debate on the matter. Just fix the place and the time and I will be there,” said Johari.

Despite his old age, Johari said he was still prepared and willing to go to the jungle and fight the communists if given the opportunity to put on army uniform again.

“This is the kind of spirit that we have in protecting our country until today. There is no word for us to describe our sacrifices. We left our family for months to fight in the jungle. Some of our colleagues who were less fortunate got killed by the communists.

“It is lucky that we won. If the communists captured the country at that time we don’t know what will be happening to us now. So how can we say that the communist terrorists were the real heroes when their intention was to destroy the country,” he asked.

At the media conference yesterday, Johari led the veterans to chant ‘Hidup Malaysia’ and ‘Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban’ slogans.

Meanwhile, Warrant Officer One (WOI) Rtd Temenggong Kanang Langkau, 67, the sole surviving SP recipient, said the statement by Mat Sabu was really challenging him.

“He is really disregarding and disrespecting what we have done for the country. I don’t know what he is up to but I think he is probably a bit insane otherwise he will not make that kind of statement,” said Kanang, who was also present at the press conference.
